COVID-19 UPDATE
As you know, the Coronavirus Pandemic (COVID-19) has proven to be a dynamic, evolving, and challenging situation for the entire Country. While federal, state, and local governments are focused on "flattening the curve" of the exposure rate, as Safety Trainers and First-Responders we play a vital role in this collective mission.
To that end, United Safety Associates, Inc. has been working around the clock with our clients to develop policies and procedures that are keeping pace -- and in alignment -- with infectious disease and health service professional guidelines and recommendations. This has caused an accelerated rate of change on how we do business. EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY, we will be offering some online course curriculum with the exception of AHA Certified CPR Skills verification. In response to the recent COVID-19 pandemic and concerns of group gatherings, United Safety Associates, Inc. will continue our LAWA CSPP Emergency Training Program without interruption and in the comfort of your employees home or office. Training Topics
There are many options available to employers who are considering how to deliver training. All options have their pros and cons. One training method takes advantage of technology and delivers instruction or education through computer-based training (CBT) programs/online courses.
For CBT to be effective, the student must be interested in the topic and have some personal motivation to study, review the material and understand it. CBT programs often fall victim to "click through" by the students without anytime spent on the content. This is so common that some CBT programs are being structured to identify the "clickers" and take steps to prevent abuse. United Safety Associates only uses instructor-led training for our specialized courses. With this type of teaching students are unable to ignore the instructor speaking directly to them or requiring them to attend and participate in course content. Specialized training requires skill sets that CBT alone cannot provide.
The student must be provided the opportunity to learn in an environment that allows them to ask questions, participate in group tabletop drills, learn from the instructors experience and hands on training. If equipment is involved in the course the employee must touch, inspect, wear and use their equipment during training to be familiar with what is taught in class so when they have to use it onsite with no instructor or computer present they can correctly do it.
CBT courses cannot provide or supervise this element. This is one of the main issues with using CBT alone. In some respect, the employee's time and the employer's money are wasted.
